Areti Malapetsas

I am a proficient medical/scientific editor with 15 years' experience editing and writing copy for various medical and scientific documents. I hold a BSc degree in Microbiology & Immunology (with Distinction) from McGill University, a BA degree in Psychology from Concordia University, and a certificate as a board-certified Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS). I am therefore well qualified to contribute to the development of your medical/scientific communications products.

For more than 10 years, I worked as a research technician/assistant in an experimental medicine laboratory at the Lady Davis Institute–Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, researching the literature and staying abreast of the latest advances in leukemias and brain cancers. I also designed and performed experiments, as well as analyzed, wrote, and presented the data in the form of abstracts and posters at international conferences.

For 8 years, I held various editorial positions, the latest being senior managing editor and associate director of quality assurance for a medical publishing company. In these roles, I was intricately involved in proofreading, copyediting, substantively editing, and fact-checking Web- and print-based medical education programs designed to deliver on-label drug information to physicians and other healthcare professionals (CME and promotional [medical markerting]). I also wrote 4,000-5,000 word reports—and developed the templates thereof—describing the impact of important medical conference news (press releases) and published articles for the busy physician community.

During this time, I also worked on a freelance basis for European/Asian-based scientists, editing abstracts, posters, original manuscripts and review articles, referee reports, grant proposals, and book chapters submitted by non-native English-speaking authors. I also wrote several annotated research and review articles as well as two preclinical reports.

With this work, I have gained experience editing/writing in the areas of immunology and infectious diseases, oncology, neurology, cardiology, diabetes, genomics, rheumatology, psychiatry, allergy, urology, gastroenterology, dermatology, women’s health, transplantation, developmental biology, stem cell biology, molecular biology, and structural biology. Some of the brands I’ve worked on include Lipitor, Crestor, Vytorin/Zetia, Caduet, NovoLog, Enbrel, Abatacept, Zyprexa, Cymbalta, Pataday, Singulair, Detrol LA, Maxalt, Copaxone, Avonex, Taxotere, Arimidex, Procrit, and Fuzeon.

I am also always eager to edit/write in other areas, and welcome all opportunities to provide assistance in your communications needs.

Donalee Moulton

donalee Moulton has more than 25 years experience in medical and health care communications. As a professional writer and editor, donalee has prepared everything from brochures to booklets, newsletters to annual reports, websites to online newsletters, marketing kits to feature articles, manuals to users’ guides to PowerPoint Presentations. She also taught feature writing and news writing at Mount Saint Vincent University. Her freelance broadcasting work has been heard on CBC Radio and The Morning Show; she hosted the television show Like an Open Book and her work has been broadcast on CBC-TV.
