I have 15 years of diverse experience as a medical writer and editor.
I have written numerous news stories and reports from journal articles and medical conferences. Over 300 of my news stories about topics in psychiatry, nephrology, cardiology, and neurology are posted on the Web site www.Medscape.com. I have also written PAAB-approved advertorials, and I have revised training materials for pharmaceutical sales specialists.
My editing skills include substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading. I have edited many articles, often from non-native English-speaking authors, for peer-reviewed journals of urology and ophthalmology, and I was managing editor for a newsletter about transplantation.
I am comfortable writing or editing text about any therapeutic area.

Barbara Cadario

Pharmacist PLUS - pharmaceutical scientist, writer, editor, and educator

Barbara Cadario is a dedicated, dynamic pharmacist with a successful track record of consistently improving healthcare by providing accurate, impartial information in her roles as a writer, editor and teacher. A truly unique professional, her keen insight into pharmaceutics comes from her solid grounding in science, including laboratory experimentation, which has allowed her to build on existing foundations and set a new course in various areas of drug safety.

For over two decades, Barbara has written and edited a Canadian manual on drug therapy, and was ultimately appointed as editor. In its 5th edition, this book remains popular with healthcare professionals, and is a required text for university undergraduate pharmacy students. A strong scientific approach has been a key to her success in drug information.

On every project that Barbara has led, she has not only increased revenue for the department, she has also identified strategic opportunities. In the area of adverse drug reactions, she identified a unique need, which led to the creation of a new university course on drug safety. Most recently, Barbara was appointed as the pharmacy representative to a province-wide coalition for the prevention of harmful falls in the elderly. With the goal of reducing medication-related falls, Barbara researched and wrote the first provincial guideline on this topic, with a concise, two page format that is easily used by disparate groups of healthcare workers. Her talent in evaluating scientific literature and organizing the information has been honed by years of experience.

Barbara enjoys the arts and in her spare time works towards a degree in visual art at Emily Carr University of Art and Design.

Barbara holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, as well as a B.Sc.(Hon), from the University of Toronto, and an MSc in pharmacology and toxicology from the University of British Columbia. She has been a long-time contributor of knowledge and expertise to the education of undergraduate and graduate pharmacists, as well as a supporter of the drug information needs of practicing pharmacists, physicians and nurses.

Jennifer TeagueRegion: Toronto

I have written scientific, education and lay materials in areas such as joint and tissue biomechanics, osteoarthritis, pain and discomfort, and human anthropometry, biomedical instrumentation and medical imaging techniques. These opportunities provided me with the ability to effectively communicate scientific information to a wide variety of audiences.

As a successful academic at a world-class institution, I have 5 years of experience in writing and securing grants in the health sciences. Programs in which I have secured funding include the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, AUTO21-NCE and the Centre for Research Expertise in Musculoskeletal Disorders.

Ten years of experience teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels has required that I adapt my communication strategies in how I help students learn based on their level of education. I further enhanced this skill through interactions with the media including television and radio interviews and written articles for lay audiences.

Prior to medical writing, I earned my Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and English at the University of Toronto and worked in clinical and epidemiological research coordination for over four years at major teaching hospitals in Toronto.

I have excellent written communication skills and have extensive experience writing scientific summaries in plain language and adapting materials for a variety of intended audiences and platforms. My specialties include organizing large volumes of information, creating persuasive arguments through structure and flow in text, simplifying complex scientific ideas and language without losing context, and using appropriate tone, vocabulary, and level of detail for target audiences. I am passionate about improving patient education and health literacy. Feel free to contact me by email with any writing/communication queries.
